This week we split off into our small teams to do an outreach we had planned. Our team went to an ejido called La Palangana which is 20 minutes from the AIM base here in Mexico. We were there from the 14th-20th. We stayed at the local church in one of the Sunday schools rooms, and ran a VBS at La Palangana for half the week and another VBS in a new colonial in Matamoros where they are planting a church for the other part of the week.

Our theme for the week was trust, we not only taught the kids about it but God really taught us about it too. He taught us to trust him when our van broke down and we had no way to take it to be fixed, to trust him that he would provide us with a translator when we needed one and to trust him in the ever changing plans. The week was difficult especially due to the language barrior; we didn’t always know or understand what was going on and we weren’t able to teach the lessons ourselves because of that barrior but God kept asking us if we would trust that he would move whether we taught or Rosallia or Patti did. God taught us the importance of prayer and reliance on him this week.

Although they had asked us to do a VBS we felt like that wasn’t the only thing God wanted us to do. The women of La Palangana were heavy on our hearts and we spent a lot of time praying for them and on Thursday night we all (about 30 of us in total) gathered in the church and Alison shared what God had put on her heart about trusting God and the spiritual gifts he gives to each person and we got the opportunity to pray with the women and then we fellowshipped over a delicious meal they had prepared for us.

It was an amazing week and God really blessed me, especially through the pastors wife Rosallia who has such a servants heart. She is a true picture of Matt 5:16 which talks about being a light for other people to see and living a life that brings praises to God through the good things that you do. Rosallia is a light in the fading ejido of La Palangana, she is a woman of strength and perseverance and she touched my heart in a profound way this week! So if you can, please pray for Rosallia and for Jesus’ light to shine in La Palangana.
